CONGREGATIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
~We welcome Rev. Nathan Langerak to our pulpit this morning, and Candidate Daniel Holstege this evening. We wish both of them God's blessings on their labors. Next week, the Lord willing, we will be supplied by Seminarians Nathan Decker and Brian Huizinga.
~The collection next Sunday morning for Seminarian Internship has been scheduled by the Council to give our congregation the opportunity to assist Mr. Huizinga with some of his financial needs this summer. Since the internship begins already in the summer months, there is no time available to seek summer employment. Please take note that this is the only collection scheduled for this cause.
~From the Consistory: The membership transfer of Lisa Langerak (Feenstra) has been received from Hudsonville PRC. We rejoice to see Jared and Lisa begin their life as a married couple with us, and welcome them as such into our fellowship. The request for baptism from Karl and Megan Dykstra, for their newborn daughter, Norah Macey, has been approved and will take place August 22 DV.
~The Council would like to thank Jim and Kathy Holstege and Mark and Cindy Ophoff for their coordination of the church picnic which was a wonderful evening of fun and fellowship. The picnic was well attended. The food was excellent. A special thank you to those who provided all the delicious desserts. The old-fashioned sack races were entertaining. If you are interested in helping with next year's picnic, please notify the Fellowship Committee.
~Recently, Dan Schimmel was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy. This past week, Dan went through a heart catheterization which showed no major heart damage and no blockage. The test did indicate that sleep apnea was a major contributor to Dan's condition. In the near future Dan will undergo a study which could help improve his condition.
~”I would like to thank the body of Christ for their support in my time of need. Thank you for your love, understanding, the tears that were shed together, the laughter, and your gifts for my new home. May God bless you and keep you.” New address: Glenhaven Manor, 2619 Kalamazoo Ave., Apt. 127, Grand Rapids, MI 49507 Phone: 248-1478. Vivian Guadalupe
~Evangelism Committee - We received notes of appreciation from two people with whom we have communicated. We also sent out orders for five additional requests: two more prisoners from CA; a person from Coral Springs, FL; a person from Edmonton, Canada; and a person from MA.
~A special thank you to Ted Pipe for all his hard work making our beautiful new collection plates.
DENOMINATIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
~This past Friday night, in their new church building, Covenant Protestant Reformed Church in N. Ireland ordained Martyn McGeown into the office of minister of the Word and sacraments. Rev. McGeown has moved to Limerick and will be working as missionary with his labors centering in Limerick, Ireland. We rejoice that God has given to our sister church a missionary pastor. We thank God also that He has given to Covenant a church building of their own. The building is to be dedicated this Thursday in a special worship service led by Prof. Hanko.
~Professors Engelsma and Hanko are traveling to the British Isles this week in order to preach in Covenant, and to speak in the British Reformed Conference meeting in England August 7-14.
~The Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Australia met in Presbytery a week ago. At this three-day meeting Dr. David Torlach was examined and he successfully sustained his examination. He is now licensed and eligible to receive a call from one of their churches. We rejoice with him and the EPCA.
~The Hope Heralds will present a concert at Fulton Manor on Tuesday, August 3, at 7 PM.
~The Evangelism Committee of Faith PRC invites you to join us for a time of fellowship and learning during our upcoming summer seminar on personal evangelism. This seminar will take place at Faith PRC after the evening service of August 8 and is particularly intended to equip recent high school graduates and college students for the work of evangelism in their everyday lives. For more information, please contact our evangelism committee by email to fec@faithprc.org.
~The annual Preconvention Singspiration will be held at Fairhaven ministries on Sunday evening, August 15 at 8:15 p.m. Join us for an evening of praise to our God through music.
~Lecture: Did you know that another proponent of the Federal Vision, John Baruch, makes amazing statements about what it means to be a member of the covenant people of Godω He claims that not all who begin to enjoy covenant salvation will persevere, since God has only chosen them to salvation “for a time,” he insists that all who are embraced within the covenant are thereby truly saved, at least for a period of time. (“Covenant and Election,” in The Auburn Avenue Theology, p. 154.) Attend the October 29 lecture “The Federal Vision, an Unconditional Covenant, and the Gospel of Grace” for the Biblical response.
